Glendi, (a ficticious name for a real village, which is pretty easy to work out shoud you ever visit it) is used for this superb anthropological case study by Indiana University Professor, Michael Herzfeld. A detailed, objective and compelling account of the villagers famed for their sustained resistance to Turkish Rule and then to German occupation.' A wonderful book. S.J.

expertise and, while it may seem too specific, this is a case study that could so easily

Ivanovas, Sabine. Where Zeus became a Man A very nice book indeed, large format and photographic, in English Greek and German. This is an anthropolical look at Cretan shepherds and has chapters on: Women, Shearing Sheep, Misithra etc. Absolutely amazing value too
