EPHEMERA
I watched everything beginning and ending
The unearthly unuttered the unsaid unspoken the unsung unsung
And it really didn't matter for the birds were whimpering and the dogs flew back and forth
Our farm hung from a tree and we slept in it
I saw your visions of freedom and they were alphabets sucked from soup with a straw
We emerged broken from backgammon boards
Trying to trace missing squares
with the fall of shadowsAll yellow and blue flowers dressing it up
Where the sea is flat and follows the supermarket
Trying to buy some stamps or peace of mind
The earth already belongs to you
Sings to your eye and ear one familiar song
Securing tablecloth and leaf and dusty motorcycle
The mosquitoes preparing for tonight's heavy drinking
The wind discussing coolness with the impending night
While we roll our sleeves and wish we never had to go home
